Envision Damascus - Two Map Alternatives The Damascus City Council is presenting two alternative Draft Comprehensive Plan Maps to the citizens of Damascus at Coffee Klatches this summer:  the Draft Village Development Plan Map (Alternative A) and Draft Comprehensive Plan Map (Alternative B). Coffee Klatch Calendar Several Damascus citizens have volunteered to host coffee klatches in their homes this summer to review and provide feedback on the new maps.  Most hosts will be giving personal invitations to their neighbors.  However, a few hosts have opened their homes to the public as well.  Calendar.  While an RSVP is not required, it will be helpful if you let the City know if you plan to attend a citizen-hosted Coffee Klatch so that we have enough seating and refreshments to accommodate all participants comfortably. In addition, the City will be hosting three “open” coffee klatches for the public to attend.
Two Maps - Comment Form City Council is seeking feedback and input on the two maps. You may fill out, print, and return the Comment Form to City Hall or return via email by filling out, saving to your computer, and returning as an attachment to Theresa Nation.
Anderson Road Project Anderson Road is being reconstructed. The project extends from Hwy 212 to Chitwood Road and is a show casing of recent trends in green street designs for porous asphalt paving, storm water treatment, landscaping, street lighting, and sidewalk surfacing. View drawings and photos here. On May 5, 2010, the City received bids from nine construction firms. S-2 Contractors submitted the low responsive bid of $368,218 and was awarded a contract on May 19, 2010. The completion date is set for July 31, 2010, weather permitting. Council Candidate Packets Available at City Hall Election packet materials, including Candidate Filing Information, are now available at City Hall for the 2010 Council election. The filing deadline is no sooner than June 2, 2010 and no later than August 24, 2010. City Council Positions 3 (Andrew Jackman), 4 (Randy Shannon) and 5 (David Jothen) will be up for election on the November 2 ballot as will be the Mayor’s position. The Mayor term is for two years; all others are four-year terms.  More information is available on the Elections web page.

Interim Urban Forestry Ordinance On June 7, 2010, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2010-43 which continues a temporary ban on clear cutting of trees in Damascus. The ordinance is in effect until December 16, 2010.  Currently the City is working with the Oregon Department of Forestry on a DRAFT Urban Forestry Ordinance which will address all aspects of urban forestry within the city.
Please Drive Slow Through Construction Zones! This year, the Oregon Department of Transportation is raising awareness about the importance of driving safely through road construction work zones.  Full article.
City Hall Drop Site for Battery Recycling The City has provided a convenient drop site for household batteries at City Hall. There is a receptacle available 24 hours a day in front of City Hall. You are encouraged to drop off all AAA, AA, C, D, 2V, 3V, 6V, 9V, 12V-button, 3V-button, or any other household battery. Read full article.

Cofee Klatch Summary Meeting WHEN:  Tuesday, August 17    6 - 8 PM

WHERE:  Damascus Community Church, 14251 SE Rust Way

WHAT: Coffee Katch Summary Meeting. The City Council will present the draft comprehensive plan maps and discuss what was learned during Coffee Klatch public outreach.  Your feedback is instrumental to assist the Council as it moves forward to adopt a draft comprehensive plan map. 

Transportation System Plan The Transportation System Plan is on hold until the Comprehensive Plan is Adopted.  Contact Steve Gaschler for more information.
