FAQ: Permits



Am I required to have a permit to operate a home occupation in Damascus?
The City of Damascus adopted Clackamas County’s Zoning and Development Ordinance that applies to home occupations in the City (Section 822 HOME OCCUPATIONS).

Section 822 is organized by the different types of home occupations:

• 822.01 PURPOSE
• 822.02 DEFINITIONS
• 822.03 LEVEL 1 – MINOR HOME OCCUPATION
• 822.04 LEVEL 2 – MAJOR HOME OCCUPATION (permit required)
• 822.05 LEVEL 3 – MAJOR HOME OCCUPATION (permit required)
• 822.06 EXCEPTIONS (application required)
• 822.07 PREEXISTING USES (application required)
• 822.08 PERMIT AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR MAJOR HOME OCCUPATIONS

A LEVEL 1 MINOR HOME OCCUPATION does not require an application or permit unless it involves a home occupation kitchen.  However, the business owner must comply with all of the rules detailed in 822.02 and 822.03.  Failure to do so could result in a code compliance violation and fine.

Am I required to obtain a permit from the City of Damascus for my alarm system?
No, alarm permits are not required by the City of Damascus. Homeowners and installers must comply with building and electrical installation permit requirements.  Contact Clackamas County Planning Department for installation and electrical permit questions at 150 Beavercreek Rd., Oregon City, Oregon, or via phone at 503-742-4400.  More info.
